Thu, 28 Nov 2013Executive recruiter Quantum has filled seven senior roles at a new Hitachi Rail project in the North-East, who will themselves in time hire 730 staff.
Alongside a project manager for the construction of new train manufacturing facility, Quantum has filled six roles including HR manager Julia Potts, who arrived in July this year after the project was first approved last summer. All but two have started work.
Quantum director Pauline McGuirk tells recruiter.co.uk that with a commercial office in London, the facility in Newton Aycliffe in the North-East was “not a commercial set-up, just a manufacturing one”, meaning manufacturing experience was far more important than commercial know-how in recruiting.
McGuirk also explains that people with experience of working in a start-up environment were particularly prized. “To bring in 730 staff from nothing requires a certain understanding,” she says.
She adds that she was “pleasantly surprised” with the talent they found available in the North-East, with the local automotive industry in particular being a good source in their searches.
