Tue, 14 May 2013The chief executive officer of the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) has promised a twin-track approach to the body’s remit of regulating the supply of workers in various horticultural, agricultural and shellfish gathering industries.

Speaking this morning (14 May) at the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Labour Providers, the trade association for GLA industries, Paul Broadbent (pictured right) said: “Obviously prevention is better than cure.”

But he went on to say that protection is also important, commenting: “That [prevention] is a fantastic philosophy, which is frankly unachievable, and we are realistic in what we can do, so we will prevent and protect simultaneously."

“We will also tackle unlicensed criminal activity and ensure that those who are licensed operate within the rules.”
