Mon, 11 Feb 2013Food, pet care and chocolate maker Mars has unveiled a unique way of creating a buzz around its graduate scheme among potential applicants – asking students to tweet them to be given a free Mars product and details about the roles.

Students are invited to follow @marsgradsuk, approach an on-campus vending machine [pictured left] and tweet the @marsgradsuk account using the hashtag #marstweetshop. The machine then displays a code, which the student enters into the machine, receiving a randomly chosen Mars product ranging from pet food to pasta sauce or confectionary, including information on the Mars graduate scheme.

Through the Twitter account, the Mars graduate recruitment team will also provide further advice and retweet the best tweets they receive. All tweeters will also be entered into a prize draw for Mars and careers-related prizes.

Helen Baxter, a talent development manager at Mars, says: “We're extremely excited to showcase Mars as a place to work and share our industry leading brands in such a unique way.” Developed alongside social and digital media lab RAAK and brand consultancy Tonic, Mars claims that the machine’s use in a recruitment setting is a world first.
The vending machines will appear on UK university campuses throughout February, the first having been unveiled at Durham University on 5 February.

Mars runs graduate programmes across six different areas of the business: management development, European finance, commercial, engineering, research & development and sales.
