Australia: Full female military recruitment close, says ADF
The Australian Defence Force has made further progress with an ongoing project to open up all roles within the Army to females, the organisation said yesterday.
The Army is about to complete a Physical Employment Standards Project review of all employment categories, with plans to implement new standards that focus on removing barriers for women.
This five-year plan runs across all three services of the Defence Force, although the Army will this January, ahead of the Navy and Air Force, be the first to make all jobs available to current employees through internal transfer.
Minister for defence science and personnel Warren Snowden says: “By defining a set of standards that represent the real demands of military tasks, the Army can ensure that all personnel – not just those in combat employment categories – have the appropriate physical capacity to carry out their tasks safely and effectively.”
