NHS launches new career website

NHS Careers is launching a new career website, www.stepintothenhs.nhsuk, on 25 June.

The website is designed to engage 14-19-year olds with the surprising breadth of jobs in the NHS, as well as encouraging and stimulating them to think about ways in which their talents and skills could have a positive impact on the future of the NHS.

Foluke Ajayi, head of NHS Careers, NHS Employers, says: “The launch marks the first time we have produced a service aimed specifically at engaging young people.

“When the original NHS Careers service launched in 1999, the focus was on increasing the numbers of people entering nurse training. Then it was developed to include information on hundreds of different healthcare career options, as well as live job vacancies across the NHS in England.

“But we are working in a very different environment today, and we’re in tough competition with other large employers. The website is not about filling training places or vacancies now; instead we are focusing on maintaining the quality and quantity of the NHS workforce far into the future. It’s vital that we raise awareness and understanding of the opportunities offered by the NHS with young people, engaging them early on in their decision-making process.”

The site also includes an interactive career mapper, career advice and short films starring real NHS staff.
