Following a June slump in which new City jobs were half the level seen in the same month the previous years, July has better news for London’s business heart, according to data from financial services recruiter Astbury Marsden.

New jobs totalled 2,985, up from 2,895 the previous month, although this is still 39% lower than July 2011. However, this is better news than in June, when there had also been a month-on-month decline of 32%.

Recent times have also seen a drop in City staff looking for a new job – that figure now stands at around 6,200, down from 14,290 in July 2011.

Chief operating officer at Astbury Marsden, Mark Cameron, comments that with “the seemingly ever-present Eurozone problems, we’re not expecting things to improve dramatically this year. Still, in this context, a stabilisation in new jobs is a positive”.
