The first half of 2012 has seen a surge of technology firms arriving in San Francisco with significant resultant job creation.

The number of tech jobs in the city in the first half of 2012 was 44,000 compared with 13,000 in the first half of 2011, according to data from the San Francisco Center for Economic Development (SFCED).

“Entrepreneurs are coming to San Francisco instead of going to Silicon Valley,” says Phil Ting, San Francisco’s Assessor-Recorder, a non-elected municipal official.

Previously, Recruiter.co.uk reported the findings of a survey by CareerCast.com, which showed that software engineer is the best job in the US in 2012.
