• Agency recruiters should be careful in the words they use if they don’t want to damage the industry, according to Richard Wahlquist, president of the American Staffing Association.
Speaking at the International Confederation of Private Employment Agencies’ (Ciett) World Employment Conference 2012 in London last month, Wahlquist warned that using words such as ‘temps’ and ‘contingent’ was damaging to the industry, and to agencies becoming recognised as employers of choice.
Walhquist told Ciett delegates that on many occasions agency workers had come up to him, and said ‘I am just a temp, Mr Wahlquist’.
“They [agency workers] don’t like the word temp, and we shouldn’t use it.”
