Ed Vernon, the chair of East Midlands recruiter Macildowie, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to economic development.

The Belfast-based businessman acquired Macildowie in 2007 through holding company Synetecs.

He has also spent the last six years as a board member of Invest Northern Ireland and is a strategic advisor to BT Ireland, as well as a trustee of the foundation board of Belfast’s Queens University.

He says: “I’m very pleased to be honoured in this way. I feel this highlights the importance of the economy, particularly in what has been a period of unprecedented challenge over recent years.”
