A long day!

We were picked up at the hotel at 7am for the trip to the airport and then boarded the flight for the two-hour journey to Shanghai. There was very little check-in and freshen up time at the Westin Bund before Josie [Holroyd – APSCo’s affiliate relationship manager] and I headed to Squire Sanders’ Shanghai offices for the afternoon presentations.

Dan Roules, a partner, had warned Josie that he was “better online than in person” but we beg to differ! He and Lindsay Zhu covered how to set up your recruitment company (not as simple as we – used to instant gratification – had hoped!). Dan asked for interaction, and he got so much that we are going to continue that discussion tomorrow morning.

Cebastian Liu from the Royal Bank of Scotland covered the banking set-up in China and clarified how to get your money out of China – bureaucratic but safe. For the first time the group decided to head back to the hotel for an early(-ish) night (I write this from the Ritz Carlton where we have a much earned drink in hand) before a very full day tomorrow, which includes an evening drinks reception hosted by Brian Davidson, British Consul-General, and attended by Her Majesty’s Ambassador Sebastian Wood and 400 chief executives of British businesses and government officials. We are all ensuring a huge wodge of business cards are to hand!
