Sainsbury’s to hire 6,000 across next year

Wed, 23 May 2012
Supermarket Sainsbury’s will hire 6,000 over the next year through a mixture of new stores and expansions.

A spokesperson for the firm tells Recruiter that the average supermarket employs around 250 people in 35 different positions ranging from deputy managers to team leaders, category assistants, online managers and customer service advisors.
The roles will also include jobs in the company’s logistics operations, the spokesperson notes.

Sainsbury’s will also be using its Youth Can campaign to promote careers in retail and “tackle the ‘retail career snobbery’ which blinkers them from the true rewards of a career in one of Britain’s biggest employment sectors”, according to the firm.

The campaign launched in March this year, following feedback from the company’s National Youth Forum of 15 employees representing the 40,000-plus colleagues under the age of 25 at the firm.

The company’s chief executive Justin King spoke yesterday (22 May) at the Sunemployment Roadshow organised by the Sun newspaper in Newcastle to start the company’s recruitment drive.
