London decline as Midlands grows in Monster index

The Midlands region was by far the strongest in terms of online job growth, while London was in negative territory for the first time since December 2009, reveals the Monster Employment Index (MEI) UK.

The Midlands saw online opportunities up 15% year-on-year, with North England seeing 2% growth and East Anglia 1%, with the UK as a whole also up 1%.
London’s decline was at a rate of 3%, while Scotland was down 6%, and Northern Ireland and Wales by 7%.

Five industries saw double-digit year-on-year growth: public sector, defence and community (18%), engineering (13%), IT (12%), hospitality and tourism (11%) and transport, post & logistics (10%).

Arts, entertainment, sports and leisure was the big loser by sectors, down 10%.
