Leamington Spa recruitment MD defends scam-hit town
Tue, 22 May 2012
Leamington Spa is far from a town rife with recruitment-based fraud, Mark Esom, managing director of locally-based recruiter Fuel Recruitment, tells
Recruiter.
“I think the headline on the story is worse than the reality,” he says, referring to a
recruiter.co.uk story of last Friday (17 May), suggesting that the fraud is “probably a couple of rogue individuals”.
He notes that of the 10 companies involved, seven are connected by two, or what he presumes to be just two, directors.
While these facts were made clear in a media statement from The Insolvency Service, a spokesperson for the body also told Recruiter last Friday: “They’re not connected companies, there’s no link other than Leamington Spa as far as we can see at the moment.”
Esom founded the firm, which recruits for IT, communications, broadcast and engineering roles, in 2003. He has nearly 20 years of recruitment experience and says he has heard of such fraud within the industry just once before in his career.
He concludes: “Sadly there are some recruitment advertising companies that don’t play with a straight bat… it’s sad that that kind of thing tarnishes the name of an area.”
