INTERNATIONAL US: Joblessness down in 92% of cities

Unemployment rates dropped in April in 342 (or 92%) of the US’s 372 metropolitan areas compared with the same month last year, reports the national Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Unemployment rates dropped in April in 342 (or 92%) of the US’s 372 metropolitan areas compared with the same month last year, reports the national Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Among the 49 metropolitan areas with more than 1m population, unemployment dropped in 46 cities.The largest drops came in Detroit-Warren-Livonia, Michigan and El Centro, California, with a drop of 2.4 percentage points.

The only city to see a rate of unemployment increasing by over 1 percentage point was Pasco-Richland, Washington.
