Plans have been approved for a major development of Australia’s Gold Coast Airport, which should create nearly 2,500 full-time jobs over the next two years.
The minister for infrastructure and transport, Anthony Albanese, in a statement confirming his approval for the project, adds that the plans should contribute almost AUS$768m (£477m) to the economy and should bring 5.5m visitors to the region.
The airport and the city of Gold Coast, in the South-East state of Queensland, will see a particular spike in activity around the time of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which it is hosting.
