Evenbase data shows new job vacancies down 25%

Thu, 10 May 2012
The last quarter has seen a 25% decrease in the number of online advertised vacancies, reports digital recruitment group Evenbase.

The company’s Quarterly Recruitment Review (spring 2012) also shows that 63% of candidates are registering on two to five job boards, compared to half who did so in the previous survey, while the number of people registering on more than five jobs boards has dropped by nearly half, from 14% to 8% quarter-on-quarter.
Meanwhile, the number of companies using just one job board has hit 69%, a large change from the 48% figure found this time last year.

Mike Wall, managing director of Evenbase’s job boards division, says: “The findings show a slow and cautious start to recruitment in 2012.

“Nonetheless, there are some encouraging signs that people are still prepared to consider moving jobs, despite a fall in the number of overall vacancies.”

Interesting interpretation of the figures. This flies in the face of the data (from the REC survey) on numbers of vacancies which recruitment agencies are trying to fill which have increased over the same period. Perhaps it's more a reflection on the cost and lack of effectiveness of certain job boards (69% of companies just using one board) and the desperation of candidates to find one that delivers that is driving them to register on more. Perhaps the model is broken hence the lack of job adverts?
