Confidence up and recruitment freezes down in services sector, says Barclay Meade

Just 11% of business services firm were implementing a recruitment freeze in Q1 2012, down from 17% in the last quarter of 2011.
And confidence is generally higher than previously, with 21% of businesses in the sector more confident about recruiting compared to last quarter, with only 8% less confident, according to business services sector of recruiter Barclay Meade’s ‘Tracking UK Recruitment’ survey of 300 UK businesses.
Social media was being used by 43% of companies for hiring, and was found to be most prevalent as a recruitment method than in any of the other three sectors in the report – supply chain, manufacturing and financial services.
However, this was often in the face of perceived poor availability of talent, with 43% of firms ‘increasingly frustrated by a lack of appropriately skilled staff’, a rise of over a quarter on the previous period.
