IT staff value career progression over salaries, says webrecruit

Wed, 11 Apr 2012
Over half (57%) of IT workers find career progression the most attractive element in a job advertisement, according to a survey from online recruiter webrecruit.

Webrecruit surveyed 500 jobseekers, finding that salary (18%) is the second most important element, followed by training (10%), benefits package (3%) and working hours (2%).
Phil Roebuck, founder and director of webrecruit, says: “This focus on developing a career over the salary level is interesting and I think it’s important for organisations filling an IT role to bear this in mind. If your job advert doesn’t allude to the career opportunities available but has a high pay bracket, you might actually be putting off potential talent.”

“As recruiters I think it’s important to take this into consideration when advertising roles and ensure we are passing this message onto our clients to make sure the look at what opportunities they are offering potential employees.”
