INTERNATIONAL Serbia: More than 2,400 to fill new Fiat plant

Tue, 17 Apr 2012
A new Fiat car production facility in Kragujevac, Serbia will employ 2,400 by the end of 2012, with a further 1,000 jobs expected with suppliers at a nearby park.

The site has seen a total investment of around €1bn (£0.83bn) over the past three years of construction, and Fiat calls it its “most advanced” plant.
Fiat chief executive Sergio Marchionne says the modernisation programme in the country, which was has existed in its present state since 2006, when Montenegro gained independence from Serbia, has made for “a dynamic environment that is attractive to foreign investors”.

He adds: “It is a great privilege for Fiat to be able to participate in the country’s future growth.”
