In a report that suggests there are 50m fewer jobs than before the start of the global financial crisis, the International Labour Organization (ILO) nonetheless finds there are six “advanced economies” in which employment rates have increased since 2007.

All but one of these countries are European – namely Austria, Germany, Israel, Luxembourg, Malta and Poland.

More broadly, the ILO newly released ‘World of Work Report 2012: Better Jobs for a Better Economy’ says that there is “no sign of recovery in the near future” for the jobs market.

It points to austerity measures having negative consequences for labour markets and job creation, jobseekers losing skills and suffering demoralisation and the rise of “non-standard forms of employment” as contributing factors.
