INTERNATIONAL Australia: Employ a mature jobseeker, get $1,000

Thu, 19 Apr 2012
The Australian government has announced a fund that will provide a A$1,000 (£646) job bonus for employers who recruit someone over the aged of 50 and retain them for over three months.

This is the result of a response to an advisory panel commissioned “because we [the government] understand that the ageing of our population brings great opportunities for our country and our economy if we better harness the skills and experience of older Australians”.
The report also “found that as a community we need to provide greater choices to older Australians as to how they spend their golden years, and better opportunities to stay engaged with the workforce and the broader community”.

Further measures include provision of nearly A$25m to a variety of bodies promoting and rewarding best practice in employment and treatment of older citizens.
