Kiddicare expands brand, aims to create a thousand jobs

Child and baby goods retailer Kiddicare.com will take over the lease of 10 former Best Buy stores, furthering its presence in retail parks and creating over 1,000 jobs.

These jobs include 700 shop floor staff, but a spokesperson for the firm tells Recruiter that before these stores open the firm intends to expand its online presence, which means it should exceed 1,000 new jobs to be created in total.

The company also says that it is particularly open to applications from “mums and dads”, telling Recruiter “they offer valuable expertise and advice” to customers.

Kiddicare was bought by food retailer Morrisons last year.

The firm’s only current store is at a retail park near Peterborough, joined to its distribution centre, with new stores to be based in former Best Buy stores bought from the Carphone Warehouse, which will benefit from £15m renovation investment.

The stores will be in Aintree, Bristol, Croydon, Enfield, Hayes, Hedge End, Merry Hill, Nottingham, Rotherham and Thurrock.

The location of the first store will be “put to a customer preference vote via a social media mechanism”, says the firm.

Scott Weavers-Wright, chief executive of Kiddicare, says: “These 10 flagship stores will put Kiddicare within easy driving distance of nearly a third of the UK population.

“As well as being fantastic destination superstores for families across the country, they are the ideal platform for Kiddicare.com to lead the baby market by giving a true multi-channel experience.”
