Global
A survey carried out by KPMG International has found that, despite the slowdown, businesses will continue to recruit international skilled
workers. The survey found that 85% of international businesses say that better labour mobility offers an improved talent pool from which to choose the right employees.

China
Chinese banks, including China Construction Bank (CCB), CITIC Group and BOCI, are expanding their investment banking divisions. News website China CSR reports that Chinese banks reportedly intend to recruit 37,500 college leavers this year.

Canada
The Canadian economy will worsen in the first half of 2009 but may show tentative signs of recovery as early as the third quarter, according to a
Reuters poll. The poll of economists found that Canada should record growth of 0.5% in the July- September quarter before accelerating in each
quarter throughout 2010.

Brazil
Brazil’s labour market is over the worst of the downturn and unemployment should fall to around 7.5% by end of this year from its current
8.5%, according to Labour Minister Carlos Lupi.

US
The First Baptist Church in Vacaville, California held ajob fair following an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday. Church administrator Shirley Swan told US news website The Reporter: “This is a way for us to show we know what jobseekers are going through.”
