Innovation: (n) a new method, idea or product. The process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value. A successful Innovation Culture leads to more motivated employees and increased customer satisfaction – along with higher profits.

Innovation in-house: what does 'innovation' mean to in-house recruiters now? How and where is innovation occurring  in-house -- in talent acquisition methods and techniques, technology use, internal operations, in defining and developing 'talent' or elswhere? simon

 Simon Bichara, Founder, HiredByMe

Simon is the founder of HiredByMe – a firm dedicated to making contractor onboarding faster, easier and more cost effective. He began his career in technology, writing and selling games from his bedroom. A stint with Accenture followed a degree from Imperial College, after which he moved into financial services. He worked for Sumitomo and Deutsche Bank before spending 13 years at Barclays Capital and Barclays Wealth where he led many transformation programmes across the organisations. 

Over the last two years Simon has dedicated himself to his new firm, and to researching, commentating on and finding solutions for the onboarding challenges facing the contingent staffing market. 


Blaize

Glyn Blaize, Northstar

Glyn is a leader, motivator and creator of the ground-breaking application, Northstar. His people-led approach to business change started in 1999 when he was forced from a successful rugby career due to injury. The experience of an elite team-orientated environment allowed Glyn to focus on the people element of businesses leading to him holding Director positions at a number of recruiters. Perhaps a natural succession was founding Northstar Innovation Group. His experience within and outside the recruitment sector has allowed him to develop a platform that maps the mind of the entrepreneur and better enables businesses to recognise where they must adapt and improve. Joined by Gavin Megnauth (ex-COO of Impellam Group) in 2016, their desire is to make Northstar the natural choice product for recruitment businesses and the wider market.


Yvette

Yvette Cleland, CEO, Clinical Professionals

Yvette worked in the pharmaceutical industry for eight years at Janssen prior to her commencement in professional staffing in 1998.  Her background within Life Sciences industry provided excellent insight into identifying the best staffing solutions within global pharma. In 2006, Yvette moved to commerce and industry staffing in the City of London,  as Executive Director for a highly successful accounts and finance recruitment business. In 2012 she joined Clinical Professionals as Group Managing Director to drive business growth within the EU and globally. She was made CEO in April 2014. ABPI qualified with a pharma MBA in 2013, her business was winner of APSCo Innovator of the year 2015 and a Times Top 100 company. Yvette was elected onto the APSCo representative committee in 2016 and Chairs the Life Science sector meetings. She is a regular key note speaker and contributor to pharma media thought leadership around life sciences 


Oliver


Oliver Donoghue, Managing Director, NonStop Recruitment

Oliver Donoghue is an award-winning recruiter and Managing Director of pan-European specialist NonStop Recruitment.

Based in NonStop’s Prague office, he has been instrumental in growing the company’s highly successful Recruitment Consultant training programme and driving the company towards 100% year-on-year growth.

As well as the training programme, he has helped develop other industry innovations within NonStop including Quality Assurance and Market Research teams.

Through NonStop’s Business Accelerator programme, he helps inspire a culture of innovation within the company and mentors consultants to develop their innovative ideas – a new office, a new division or a new market.

He is also up for Most Inspiring Recruitment Leader at this year’s Recruiter Investing in Talent Awards.

Guy Hayward, CEO, Goodman Masson

Guy is the CEO of Goodman Masson, the largest financial recruitment business in London. He holds a belief that a Company’s primary strategic objective, above all others, should be the engagement and retention of people.

In 2014 he was granted two trademarks on the subject of employee engagement. Called The Experience® and There is more to life than Work® it provided formal recognition of the distinctiveness and uniqueness of his philosophy.

He advises numerous businesses from the FTSE 100 to SME’s on the importance and challenges associated with employee engagement and lectures on the same subject at University College London.


Hughes

Justin Hughes, Managing Director, Mission Excellence

Justin is Managing Director of Mission Excellence, a consultancy which partners with clients committed to building high-performance organisations. His first career was in the Royal Air Force.

During officer training, he was awarded the Wilkinson Sword for outstanding leadership and graduated as top cadet of his entry. After completing flying training, Justin went on to fly the Tornado

F3, a front-line air defence fighter aircraft. He has taken part in both training and operational deployments all over the world, including in UN peacekeeping operations in Bosnia. On the Tornado he was qualified to lead any scale of mission in any theatre, and was subsequently selected for the Red Arrows. 

Justin served for 3 years on the team performing over 250 displays worldwide including 3 international tours. He was Executive Officer, responsible for operational day-to-day management of the team, a hand-picked group of 9 elite pilots and 90 support personnel.


Simon

Simon Miles, Senior Talent Acquisition Manager, Jagex Games Studio

Simon Miles is a leading games industry talent spotter and responsible for hiring hundreds of game developers, artists and technical personnel into UK games companies. As Senior Talent Acquisition Manager for Jagex, Simon is responsible for the employer brand and employer value proposition and specialises in alternative markets. 

Simon started at the age of 15 working in sales and has covering selling everything from DIY equipment to exotic fruit and Vegetables before moving to a role in a technical recruitment agency in 1999. After building up a loyal client base he moved into an account management role, working with clients including Serco Integrated Transport, Alfred McAlpine and Pickfords Vanguard. In 2008 he took the move into internal recruitment as he wanted to foucs on using his passion for fully understanding the client’s needs and using innovative approaches to benefit a company directly. The company he joined was in the niche skilled area of computer games development and he hasn’t looked back.

Simon says “Working in a creative industry that embraces new ideas has enabled me to identify, new innovative ways of talent attraction and also given me the opportunity to work with the education sector to help guide and influence aspiring games developers of the future whose only wish to is to work in our vibrant successful industry” Simon also has extensive experience in identifying what the Employer Value Proposition looks like to attracting talent from different markets and has worked directly with Governments to support employment across borders. When not clocking up air miles and hotel loyalty points he can’t resist testing and playing the products his fantastic industry produces.


Tom


Tom O'Loughlin, Executive Director, Nicoll Curtin Technology GmbH

Tom joined Nicoll Curtin in 2010. After quickly establishing himself as a high biller, he went on to build the BA/PM Contract team from scratch to 7 people in less than 3 years, generating £22,000/week. Off the back of this success Nicoll Curtin offered Tom the opportunity at just 26 to go and head up their struggling Zurich office. In a well documented turnaround, the Swiss office has grown over the past 3 years from being just two people in 2013, generating NFI of £600,000; to 2016 being on track to generate £2.5million and set in November 2016 to move into brand new 3,000 square foot offices in a prime Zurich location. Along this journey the turnaround was recognised by winning the prestigious “Most Inspiring Manager/Team Leader – 2014” by The Recruiter Magazine.

Emy Rumble-Mettle, Director of Talent and Development for GroupM UK 

Emy Rumble-Mettle is Director of Talent and Development for GroupM UK (Part of the WPP Group) and the world’s number one media investment business. As Director of Talent and Development, Emy oversees the management of each of operating company’s talent acquisition, retention strategy and promotes best practice for learning and development across our portfolio.

Prior to taking the GroupM Talent role, Emy spent the majority of her career within Media Recruitment as a Managing Director for two leading Recruitment Agencies and previous to that her career began in advertising sales – selling to the Media Agencies. Emy has always been focused on talent-centric businesses and driving companies towards growth and scalability. She has a successful track record of delivering training and development on talent advancements, communication, interview skills and the changing face of employability and diversity to a wide audience from school children through to c-suite level.

Christos Tsaprounis, Head of Resourcing & Development, AutoTrader  

Christos has worked across different industries ranging from online retail to social housing. He spent four years leading the strategic direct resourcing team at the Co-operative Bank before joining Auto Trader, one of the most admired digital employers, in 2014. Together with his awesome team he focuses on creating an all employee experience that fosters a diverse & inclusive culture of innovation and collaboration. Born in Athens and moved to the UK in 2002 to complete an MSc in HR at The University of Manchester, he is actively involved in making a difference in the community working with local charities and community groups.

Young


Jonathan Young, Director, International Talent Acquisition, Lockheed Martin Corporation

Jonathan Young is Director, International Talent Acquisition, for Lockheed Martin Corporation, responsible for leading the Corporation’s Talent Acquisition activities for all countries outside the US. 

Jonathan implemented LM’s first International TA strategy building a team from scratch, hiring over 1,500 highly skilled employees a year as well as implementing and embedding TA infrastructure and leading several critical initiatives for LM, including:

•Designing and implementing a “Hybrid” recruitment model (mix of direct/RPO), 

•Early Career Programmes- Graduate, Interns and Apprenticeship,

•Created a TUPE/Capture Support COE in Europe,

•Currently leading a project to determine a “Data Driven Integrated Talent Management Capability” model for international HR operations.

Previous to Lockheed Martin, he worked at Barclays, Banco Santander, Tesco in various HR and TA capacities.

Jonathan has a degree from Strathclyde University’s Business School, speaks French and is a fully qualified psychometric tester.
