Elite Leaders members to join APSCo

Members of the peer-to-peer business learning forum Elite Leaders are set to join the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) from March, according to a press release posted on APSCo’s site.
The move sees APSCo membership grow from 146 members in January 2009 to nearly 250 members at the beginning of this year.
John O’Sullivan, managing director of Elite Leaders (right), joins the board of APSCo, while Ann Swain, chief executive of APSCo, will become non-executive director of Elite Leaders.
Elite Leaders members will become full APSCo members as part of the annual fee they already pay to Elite.
APSCo adds that its staff are in the process of checking references before the new members can be admitted.
O’Sullivan says: “Joining APSCo will bring many exciting new additions to the range of benefits we bring to our member companies. I want my members to share in those benefits and I am prepared to pay for them to do so.”
Swain adds: “I’m delighted to welcome the Elite community into APSCo and I’m looking forward to working with John and the Elite Board to further enhance the programmes they’ve been developing.
“There’s no doubt that companies who have been in the Elite programme have acquired a great deal of expertise which will be of enormous benefit to APSCo members.”

I am an Elite member and this is the first I have heard of it. I think someone is jumping the gun here. I am not sure I want to be an APSCo member. The REC is the only professional body dedicated to representing the whole of the recruitment industry and it has Interactive Selection's full support.

David, when you know more about APSCo I am sure you will agree it represents your interests very well, either complimentary to REC or alone. We have been members for a year and found APSCo to be far more relevant to our needs, more proactive with big support from its very active members. We try and send our people to all their events as they are relevant to our business.

Well, as I have to declare my hand as someone who works with John O'Sullivan whenever the opportunity arises, and likewise collaborates with Ann and Marilyn at APSCo whenever possible - I can obviously only offer congratulations on the "marriage".
This makes good sense, although as David points out, some concerns for Elite members do need to be resolved - not least for those working in sectors that APSCo has previously rejected. I am sure John will be able to do this - personally if I were him, I'd shoot the PR company for releasing this rather than embargoing it until later, as I'm sure his original plan would have been to use Feb to brief all members fully.
To pick up a couple of points raised - again, I don't see REC membership and APSCo membership as remotely complimentary. I can't think of why anyone would be in one and the other. I also don't think (sorry David) REC should in any way claim to represent the whole industry - it has utterly lost its way in that regard in recent times and that is certainly not how Parliament views it.
Good luck and continued success to both parties here!
(PS. With all these NED roles being chucked about, can someone please chuck another couple of spare ones in my general direction please...)

I don't see what David's issue is here. Surely it is beneficial to be a member of both REC and APSCo? I see this as a huge benefit. Although not currently a member of Elite, I hope to rejoin later this year.
