Economic downturn and improved career progression causes accountants to seek overseas roles

Tougher economic times along with fewer opportunities for career progression are causing UK accountants to seek overseas roles, according to Max Williamson, director at accountancy careers site CareersinAudit.com.

Williamson’s comments follow publication of CareersinAudit research which shows 30% of accountants want to leave their job immediately for a role abroad. The research also shows 85% would definitely seek an overseas role and would be prepared to learn a foreign language to do so, with Western Europe (22%), the Middle East (16%) and Australia and New Zealand (14%) the preferred locations.
