Blanchflower urges Budget action on jobs
The government should use next week’s Budget to tackle Britain’s jobs crisis, according to Bank of England policy maker David Blanchflower.
Ahead of Chancellor Alistair Darling presentation of his annual budget to parliament on Wednesday, Blanchflower, who steps down from the Monetary Policy Committee at the end of next month, told the Daily Mail: “We need a Budget for jobs.
“We have a jobs crisis and the government needs to act quickly. Unemployment is going to rise a lot during 2009. It is probably going to be the biggest issue in the next election.”
