MONDAY
An early start. It's 7.45am and a very strong quadruple-shot cappuccino sets me up for the day ahead and a series of meetings with my team. It was an excellent week last week and no signs of a slowdown, so these meetings should be painless. Post-lunch, the focus shifts to meeting potential recruitment consultants for MW, as well as Contact Recruitment, our banking operations division.
TUESDAY
Having received a call from the HR head of a major US-based IT outsourcer saying he will be in London for the day, I head straight into the West End for breakfast with him. Return to the office armed with a number of vacancies. I know I have a good CV for one of the roles, but 20 minutes later, I am still looking for it. I promise myself I will recycle most of the paperwork on my desk at lunchtime. CV finally located and candidate booked in.
WEDNESDAY
How refreshing to sit among desks that all pass the clutter-free Feng Shui test. Everyone is very Zen and focused for about 12 minutes and then the office explodes into the more familiar frenzy of business and banter, and stays that way for the rest of the day. Most of my day is spent with clients. During the afternoon I host a series of in-house interviews for an out-of-town client. By 5.30pm I am in the boardroom with three colleagues for our weekly Italian class.
THURSDAY
Ouch! One glass of vino too many with a couple of my classmates last night. In the West End for a breakfast briefing at a US fund management firm, discussing their live tech roles. Lunch is taken up with my quarterly forecasting. That wine from last night is still making its presence felt, but I have to be in fit form for the management team's monthly budget review that afternoon. Later, a client dinner ensures there is no way I will be home in time for any trash TV.
FRIDAY
The long working week and late nights have obviously taken its toll on the team, and they arrive bleary-eyed but soldiering on, armed with egg and bacon sandwiches. Youngsters, eh? I have a half-day to get to the Cotswolds for a friend's wedding. Just before I leave, we hear from a candidate accepting an offer. This placement makes this quarter the best ever. Nice.
