Consultant, Carrot Pharma RecruitmentMondayIn the office for 8.30. I go through my inbox, call two candidates and send some emails. In our Monday morning meeting we catch up on advertising, last week's KPIs and fine-tune plans for a Friday night outing. The day whizzes past; I catch up with a client who's looking for a very specific skillset, and speak with my 'Level 2' clients — these are guys who aren't recruiting at present or whose vacancies are at the interview and offer stages.
TuesdayOff to London to visit a client who has just moved premises. The new building is fantastic. I spend some time with their HR department and key members of staff to discuss recruitment plans for the next year or so, and get more information about the company's global and national structure. To celebrate the move they've invited people from different business partnerships for an evening barbeque, with DJ and bar. Unfortunately I fail to reach the barbeque before I've had two glasses of red. As a result, on my way home I find the tube is 'delightfully' squishy, if not downright fun, and my train home is so very comfortable I think I'll just have a nap...
Wednesday
Meet with a client nearby. It's good to catch up as I haven't seen the HR manager for a while. A new division has been set up so we agree terms for its recruitment and discuss who they're looking for. Back at the office I write some new job ads, and work with my colleague Jo who writes an information document about the new division which will be sent to candidates. Gym tonight — eek.
Thursday
Training on interviewing skills in Manchester. Although I've been recruiting for nearly two years, it's always useful to ensure you're not missing any tricks by revisiting the skills you use daily. Great news — I have a placement for a London based role. I'm delighted as this is for a really good client and the candidate is a great match.
FridayOffice-based interviewing and resourcing today. I have a frantic morning with lots of good candidates to send out. At 4.30pm we head off to Derbyshire, where Carrot has hired a narrow-boat for the evening. We take turns to 'drive' with varying degrees of success. I manage to wedge the barge between the two canal sides whilst avoiding a family of ducks. Delicious food, music and how did we finish that bottle of Pimms so quickly?!
