Tracey Pelham
Managing director,
Beardshaw MurrayMondayThe week always kicks off with our team meeting. We work through a job review with all my staff, assign recruitment projects and look at new strategies to find the right people for jobs. This is followed by a management meeting with my business partner. It's then straight to interviewing prospective recruitment candidates in hourly meetings throughout the day. I eventually head home at 7pm, pick up my dancing shoes and head to my salsa class. It's my 2008 hobby — and a great way to relax.
TuesdayI take breakfast at the Business Network International weekly meeting at 7am. It's a good chance to meet with like-minded Hull business people, who have now become friends as well as contacts. After catching up at the office, I head to a solicitor's practice in town where we discuss our plan to run a joint seminar on recruitment and employment law. We then head to the bar for a chance to network over a few glasses of wine.
WednesdayI start the day with a client meeting in Hull to discuss a large-scale recruitment project and then head to the station to catch a train to London. I am meeting with a new corporate client who is looking to recruit sales professionals. I spent my early career in London, so it's nice to be back for a flying visit and see some old haunts. Dinner at the Ivy and it's midnight before my head hits my hotel pillow.
Thursday
Early morning meeting in London and then back on the train to Hull and straight to the office. It's past 3pm, but I need to pick up my files and catch up with messages and the team before heading to see a local client in Hull. Dash from the client about 6pm and head straight to a Women in Business committee meeting, where we finalise details for a networking event at the races.
Friday
Meeting first thing with my PA to assess my diary, look at my workload for the following week and do the weekly financial review. By lunchtime I have interviewed two more people looking for a top job in the region and in the afternoon I catch up on paperwork. Squeeze in short meeting with my PR and marketing agency to discuss our profile at this year's Hull International Business Convention. I always try to leave by 5.30pm on a Friday and today I leave on time, buzzing from another busy but fruitful week.
