Worker deportation

Published: 04 July 2008

An agency aircraft engineer has been deported after it was found that he had overstayed his visitor’s visa.

Singaporean Ganesh Rajoo, supplied by technical recruiter CBS Butler, worked at city-based airline Flybe at its engineering and maintenance base at Exeter International Airport.

Rajoo was arrested on suspicion of stealing cash, jewellery and credit cards from his landlady, following a police raid.

David Leyshon, managing director, CBS Butler, told the Exeter Echo: "As part of our service to clients, we carry out rigorous checks in accordance with guidelines set out within our industry.

"This is the first case that we have experienced where a worker's status has been called into question.

"Typically, in any given year, we will be engaging several hundred workers from overseas, so this is very much an isolated incident.

"However, as a leading specialist recruitment agency, we will be carrying out a full investigation to identify exactly how this situation has arisen."
