Adapting to needs of Generation Y

McCall picked up the award for Best Recruitment-to-Recruitment Firm at the Recruiter Awards for Excellence at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

McCall was praised for its commitment to liaising with clients to try to gain a better understanding of the industry.

Julie O'Neill, joint managing director at McCall, told Recruiter it was imperative that recruitment-to-recruitment adapts to changes in the market, acknowledges the challenge posed by the current generation of young workers, and responds to the demands of more flexible working.

She said: "McCall is honoured to have won this award. McCall has a wide breadth of offering. Hopefully the [voters] saw that we give value across the board, not just in one area.

"Typically, recruitment is thought of as a younger person's career, but as the industry is maturing and the demographics change, so this will need to."

O'Neill said recruiters must adopt more corporate social responsibility and think about quality of life for their staff and flexibility of working hours and locations if they are to keep up to speed with a more socially-conscious Generation Y.

"The world is becoming smaller, so knowledge of sectors and geography needs to broaden constantly," she added.

Nick Bancroft, joint managing director, said: "McCall is delighted to have won the award and it reflects all the hard work that the team has put in. In particular, we are very pleased to have won it this year because the award was not self-nominated and as a result is a true reflection of people's opinion."
