Recruiter awards judge

Published: 29 April 2008

Many are called but few are chosen could be the dictum of  this year’s Recruiter Awards for Excellence, sponsored by Thomas International.

As always picking out the winners from the also rans was the responsibility of Recruiter’s panel of judges, who this year met at London’s Millennium Hotel on February 10  to muse over the hundreds of entries.

Christopher Clark, corporate finance director at accountants BDO Stoy Hayward’s corporate finance told Recruiter: “There’s some very professional entries that people have spent time on, and thought about what they are doing.”

Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society said what separated the winners from the rest was two things.  “It comes down to two words: excellence and innovation.”

For Sally Milne, former head of resourcing and diversity at ITV, who now runs her own consultancy focusing on diversity, the key question was; “Is what the company doing really just people just doing their job or is it really exceptional?”

Martin Holden, a partner with accountancy firm Saffery Champness told Recruiter:  “There were some very strong entries, and there were some with real depth.”

Shaun Tyson, Emeritus professor in HR management at the Cranfield School of Management said; “We choose people who were highly professional in which we had confidence.”

Tony Reeves, co-chairman of the Kellan Group gave advice for next year’s entrants. “If you really want to be a winner next year the first thing you do is read the questionnaire and make sure you complete it fully,” he said.
